Landmark is a bridge between memories of the landscape in my homeland, Australia and the flatlands of Alberta. I retain strong memories of growing up in close proximity to the seashore where I was aware of the ebb and surge of tides and tidal pools. At the time I created this work I was able to observe growing, harvesting and storage of hay bales in the surrounding fields. Metaphorically, Landmark is an organic wall constructed as a barrier against the advancing cold and isolation of prairie winters, protecting the continuance of life. |
